Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is the branch of Dentistry concerned with the diseases of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth and its surrounding areas. The study of this subject includes the nature, identification, causes, processes and effects of these diseases.

The primary activities of our Department are

  • Biopsy and Cytology services
  • Clinical Pathology services
  • Undergraduate teaching program

We provide microscopic interpretation and diagnoses for biopsies and other tissue preparations from lesions in the oral and paraoral areas. These services are available to clinicians in private practice as well as patients who visit our hospital.

The course curriculum for undergraduate students is as follows:

  • I BDS – Oral and Dental Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and Embryology
  • II BDS – Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
  • III BDS – Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

The classes are in the form of didactic lectures, interactive discussions/seminars, and demonstrations
